Case study
De-Risking Market Infrastructure Projects.
Migrating a live central securities depository onto modern infrastructure, without disruption.
The hardest system in a market to replace is the one that cannot stop.
An operating depository carried live balances, open corporate actions and daily settlement. Modernising it meant changing the engine of the market while the market kept running, with no tolerance for lost records or missed settlement.
A big-bang cut-over was not an option. The risk had to be engineered out of the project, not accepted as the price of progress.
We moved the depository onto AvenirCSD through a phased, reversible migration. Each step had a defined fallback, so at no point was the market exposed to a change that could not be undone.
The new platform ran in parallel with the old, reconciling continuously, until it had proven itself against live data. Only then did it take the load.
- Phased migration with a fallback at every step
- Parallel running against live data
- Continuous reconciliation
- Data integrity checks throughout
- No interruption to settlement
- A defined point of no regret, reached only on evidence
The market changed its core depository and barely noticed.
Migration does not have to be the riskiest thing a market does. With a phased, reversible approach, modernising the core can be the calmest part of the year.
